Healthy school news
The new shared area

The school is committed to the health of its pupils. As part of the new build, commencing February 2010, we are having an enlarged kitchen enabling us to have all of the food that the children eat prepared from fresh ingredients on site. the new kitchen will be ready in 2011.

As part of the school’s commitment to health we are delighted that the PTA has committed to pay for a daily piece of fresh fruit for all junior children.  All infants have fresh fruit paid for by the government so it is very positive that we can now ensure all our children have fruit each day.  The children really enjoy the fruit, and there is never any left.

As you know, sweets and fizzy drinks are not allowed at school.  In our survey of both children and parents in March 2008, the majority of respondents were also in support of removing chocolate and crisps from both school and packed lunches. This was implemented in July 2008.

Please note that the school is a "nut free" school.

Able and Cole

The PTA organises an Able and Cole service whereby parents sign up to buy either a bag of organic vegetables or a bag of fruit, or both, for the period of a term. Bags are delivered to the school  every other week and are delivered to your child to take home. There is an inbuilt surprise as the contents are seasonable and fresh and therefore it is not possible to state what they will contain. However, Able and Cole provide recipe ideas with each bag just in case you need inspiration on how to cook beetroot or require advice on the fancier ways of serving kale!

To sign up to this great service do contact the PTA or ask for a leaflet at the school office.
